Is it argued that small local shops are difficult to race with large chain supermarkets and online shops. This essay will first explain that this problem can increase an unemployment rate and also a loss of social communities. However, supports by government and improving in shop selling strategies could be possible solutions.
Increasing amount of customers in large chains and online shops can lead to growing in rate of unemployment. Many people, nowadays, prefer to buy products from large chain supermarkets since they can sell products at lower price than those in small shops. Moreover, after COVID-19 pandemic, online shopping becomes more usual due to its convenient. These situations can lower customers that are shopping in the local shops, forcing them to be closed and leading to higher unemployment rate. Another affect from dissappearing of the small shops is that social in small communities can be gone. For example, Thai people usually have a small conversation with others while they are drinking coffee in the morning. If the local cafes disappear, the inaractions between local people are gone too.
To solve this problem, a government should supports local shops. Some campaigns should be published to help citizens to consume more local products. For instance, a year after COVID-19 in Thailand, government annouced “half-and-half” campaign to help local shops by providing money to the shops at half price of their sales. Additionally, the small shops should enhance their sell strategies to gain more customers. For example, delivering in a nearby area could increase amount of sales since it provide more convenience to customers.
In conclusion, the situation that small local shops are hardly competing with large supermarkets and online shops can lead to increasement in unemployment rate and loss of local communities, it could be improved by supported campaigns from the government and changing their selling strategies.
