Reading books is one of the most prevalent pastimes in the world, but the value of this habit can be questionable to some. While some people acknowledge that reading is inherently good, others feel that not all books can be beneficial. I agree with the former view since this activity plays a key role in knowledge and health.
To some individuals, reading’s benefit depends on a book chosen by a reader. This can be likely explained by some kind of genres and district content that is not appropriate for all ages. For example, there are some genres like horror and crime books that may not be of good use for young children who are likely to be negatively affected by being exposed to such content. To be more specific, these genres often contain graphic descriptions of violence, death, suffering, and other disturbing elements which can be emotionally overwhelming and frightening for young children who are still developing their understanding of the world and may struggle to distinguish between fiction and reality. This could be a reason why there are age restrictions for certain books.
I agree with those who emphasize the importance of reading as reading can be an advantageous habit for some. The main reason for this can be the process of reading itself. To be specific, when people read a book or newspaper, they can gain access to new concepts, facts, skills, vocabulary, and knowledge. In other words, this can not only spark an interest in wanting to learn more about certain topics but also increase your knowledge base which is why reading is encouraged from an early age. Furthermore, studies have shown that reading can reduce stress levels. For instance, if people read genres like humor and romance often provide a distraction from reality and allow the reader to enter a world of their own, in which they can escape from their worries and focus on something else for a period of time. This is one example out of many.
In summary, while for some reading books is not relevant for all people because of its disturbing content, I believe that individuals can benefit from it in terms of learning about new things and emotionally. Therefore, it is crucial to recognize these advantageous sides.
