Nowadays, in numerous major cities due to traffic jams on the roads a big deal of individuals are losing several hours. Several underlying issues will be analyzed and corresponding steps to overcome the issue will be proposed with relevant examples in the following paragraphs.
First and foremost issue is that increase in vehicle ownership. Many people in urban areas own private vehicles even more than 1 or 2 which significantly lead to traffic congestions. For example, in cities like Delhi and India the rapid rise in private vehicle usage has lead to gridlocked roads, especially during peak hours. Another issue is rise in urban dwellers. Rapid urbanization and population growth give rise to overcrowding in cities and put pressure on existing road systems. For instance, population growth in Manila and Philippines has experienced rapid urbanization, leading to sufficient road infrastructure and overpopulation.
There are several solutions to address the issue. First of all, improving public transportation. Cities or governments should invest in affordable public transport systems, such as underground networks, buses, and trams, to reduce dependence on automobile ownerships. Additionally, to tackle the population growth governments should focus on long-term urban planning, such as widening roads and creating bypasses. For example, in cities like China and Shanghai reforms urban planning with constructing elevated highways and underground tunnels to diminish congestion in central business districts.
Taking everything into account, while traffic congestions leads to problems like rising in private car usage and growth in inhabitants, solutions for these issues can be mitigated by enhancing public transport systems with maximizing buses and trams. Moreover, expanding road networks and constructing bypass roads.
