Band 7+: As Earth runs out of natural resources, we have started to look to space for solutions. However, some people argue that this is the wrong thing to do, and instead we should look for alternative solutions here on Earth. To what extent do you agree with them? What alternatives might there be to exploiting space for natural resources?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

As Earth begins to lack the resources that are taken from nature, we have begun to search for solutions from space. Yet, some individuals consider that discovering alternatives here on Earth is a better option, as they claim that seeking potential solutions from the galaxy is an incorrect thing to accomplish. While exploring Earth can offer a few likely benefits, I partly agree that pursuing new ways to obtain natural resources from space is more significant and beneficial in the long term.

On the one hand, people should bear in mind that they also can obtain profits from Earth recycling, and renewable energy sources are going to tackle problems like reliance on limited resources. Notably, advancements in contemporary technologies will improve productivity, especially in the field of utilizing and being mindful of nature. Moreover, identifying overconsumption and population growth rates is essential for long-term sustainability.

On the other hand, with the advantages of exploring space, the public can be more aware and conscious of the presence of resources there, whereas exploring the galaxy might be of interest to some individuals. For example, satellites can help us to predict weather forecasts better and detect dangers more effectively, benefiting both Earth and space. Additionally, some asteroids contain vast reserves of minerals, metals, and water ice that can fuel Earth’s technological advancements, while metals like gold and platinum in asteroids may boost the economy and industries. Finally, water ice could be extracted and processed into usable fuels and drinking water reducing the needs of people and supporting future space missions.

In conclusion, while the benefits of exploring space may outweigh those of focusing on Earth, there are also advantages of focusing on Earth for long-term sustainability as stated above.
