Band 5+: Successful companies use advertising to make more sales. What can make an advertisement effective? Do you think advertising is a bad thing or a good thing for society?

Businesses have always sought to make a profit and it is becoming pervasive that the companies utilize advertisement for increasing their sales.This essay will delve into the factors that provide with an advertisement’s effectiveness, and In my opinion,there are both negative and positive sides in this trend.

The primary way of doing effective marketing is celebrity endorsement as it is the most potent strategy in today’s business. Announcements which involve famous people appeal many as people are to be socially capable to emulate those who are more successful than them.To be more specific, if people watch a movie star or athlete who use specific product, they unconsciously find themselves gravitate towards it. Additionally, it seems logical that companies also utilize advertisements to raise social awareness and drive positive social change with people’s relatability , such as racial diversity and gender equity or responding people’s concerns over green issues are persuading as buying their products make people feel a part of solution.

I personally hold the view that advertising has both unfavorable and favorable impacts on society. On the one hand, advertisements has a flaw function regarding the information about the products.In many cases, companies overestimate and create false image of their products in order to selling more. For instance, medicines can display flawless cure or heal, convincing consumers that everyone should buy them.On the other hand, marketing drives the economy. It boosts sales through creating more products and their transportation. It means that creating more job opportunities and mitigate social problems like unemployement and crime.

In conclusion, an effective advertisement tends to feature successful public figures and themes related to current status quo and needs. As for its societal affects, I believe it can be both advantageous and disadvantageous,in the sense that it can compromise social bonds through consumerism and simultaneously, help tackle social problem through job creation.
