Computers are set to become an essential feature of the technology era. People are often confronted with arguments about the impact of widespread computer use on cognitive and physical development. From my point of view, using computers is likely to bestow both benefits and drawbacks.
There is little doubt that excessive computer use is undeniably detrimental as it can put children at risk in terms of their physical and mental development. Firstly, when children immerse themselves in computers, they are highly likely to alienate themselves from creative and physical activities and become indifferent to real life, leading to a significant decrease in their interaction with others. In terms of health, prolonged sitting in front of a computer screen unsupervised can lead to deteriorating health issues such as vision problems and even a sedentary lifestyle. Another risk of computer use is that children may be exposed to violent and sexual content beyond their age due to unfiltered information on the internet, which can have negative effects on their future lives.
However, children can greatly benefit from computers in various other ways. From an educational perspective, there are numerous educational materials and websites that help students acquire a deep understanding of various subjects. Additionally, it is an undeniable fact that computers provide an escape for children who feel fatigued and overwhelmed with school assignments and deadlines. For instance, playing online chess not only helps children relax but also boosts their cognitive skills and intellectual well-being. Consequently, it offers children a balance between campus and off-campus life.
In conclusion, healthy and appropriate computer use is acceptable and beneficial. By providing continuous guidance, imposing limits on computer usage, and categorizing the types of content children can access, they can enjoy the tremendous benefits that computers offer.
