I completely agree with the view that we should explore alternative solutions. In this essay, I will present valid reasons for my opinion, along with the opposing perspective.
On the one hand, some people contend that prisoners should be given longer sentences. The main reason for this is that crime tends to skyrocket in our society. As a result, society often discriminates against criminals. For example, the crime rate in most countries has sharply increased over the past decade, leading many countries to build more prisons and sentence criminals to longer periods. However, despite these longer sentences, crime rates such as homicide and serial killings have not significantly decreased. This may be true to some degree, but I feel that the government needs to find other solutions.
On the other hand, proponents of alternative solutions argue that the government should invest in rehabilitation facilities. These facilities help offenders reintegrate into society. Criminals are members of society, and the government should embrace them. For instance, the number of rehabilitation facilities has increased in South Korea in recent years. Additionally, the government should provide educational support to prisoners. This solution is effective in reducing crime, as many prisons run educational programs, such as schools within correctional facilities.
In conclusion, while some people contend that prisoners should be given longer sentences, I disagree with this view. I believe the government should focus on building rehabilitation facilities and providing educational support to reduce crime effectively.
