The two diagrams depict a series of modifications that occurred on the ground floor of a library between 2001 and 2009.
In general, it is clear that a major improvement is the expansion of bookshelves, in which additional subjects were added to this section including law, economics, and kitchen. Additionally, noteworthy aspects are the appearance of technology equipment as well as renovation tables.
In 2001, upon entering the ground floor, readers got access to a librarian’s desk directly facing them, and stairs on their right-hand side. On the left side of the librarian’s desk, there was a section of self-help books, to which a history shelf was adjacent. In addition, it could be observed that square-shaped tables occupied the central area. Furthermore, deep inside the library, a fiction section was located along the northern wall, while newspapers and periodicals were situated to the east of the tables.
In 2009, although the space for the bookshelves of self-help and history was reduced, the addition of other types of books was recorded, arranged from closest to the entrance: History, fiction, self-help, kitchen, economics, and law, respectively. In comparison with the position of the reception area and stairs, remaining unchanged, there was a removal of newspapers and periodicals, but instead, these shelves were replaced by films and DVDs. Besides, whereas the part in the north, which belonged to fiction 8 years ago, was converted and extended to tables, computers were installed in proximity to the films and DVDs section. Moreover, the library was not only equipped with larger rectangular tables replacing the previous square-shaped ones but also established a children’s area in the middle of the reader areas.
