Managing finances is a very important issue nowadays, and this has always been the case. Given that many people are not financially literate, it leads to many problems and complicates their everyday lives. The mentioned lack of financial competence is especially noticeable among teenagers and young people who just finished school and do not know how to manage their own money. There exist some evident and logical explanations as to why the current state of affairs in terms of financial literacy is that grim, particularly in relation to school graduates; still, everything could be changes via taking certain wise steps.
To begin with, I assume that the predominant reason why most teenagers face up with such a problem is that before the moment they finish high school, most of them care only about their problems, and the domestic ones are not in their interests. For instance, while a kid lives with parents, most of the pocket money they get from parents is spent on entertainment, clothing, personal care, or snacks shop; other spendings such as housing and utilities, food and groceries, transportation, or health are not that significant for them since parents only care about them in most cases. As a result, after graduation, and the first real experience of living on your own can lead to some problems in most adolescents lives. Secondly, there is another valuable explanation for such hard conditions in someone’s life, and it is the lack of financial skills. The main reason appears to be the education system, as in most countries around the globe, school subject as finances not even exist as an idea for an educational program at school. Most students all around the world mainly acquire academic knowledge, such as history, literacy, or science, rather than the mentioned subject. In consequence, at the end of school life experience, there is no presence of economic abilities.
Another key point is which actions should be taken to deal with this issue, and some of them are more evident than they seem at first sight. The education departments of countries can provide financial management as a mandatory subject, and it can significantly improve the situation. For instance, high school students are certainly old enough to process basic information about money; so, it would definitely be a great idea since they are going to be more confident in managing their finances when they transition into the next part of their lives. Besides, parents can actually do more than educational institutions, inasmuch as they can encourage the interest of their offspring from a young age. To illustrate, parents are capable of teaching their kids how to control and regulate their savings, which would probably help them in the future.
To conclude everything mentioned above, this situation can be corrected with simple actions that can be taken by educational institutions, parents, or guardians. Without those measures, the case will only get worse with time, and future generations can even suffer more of it.
