The bar graph illustrates the comparison between international and UK students in choosing various majors for their second class degrees in the UK. Overall, we can see that non – UK students tended to choose degrees commonly known to involve left hemisphere abilities, such as analyzing data, researching, and logic… On the other hand, home students evenly chose a wider variety of degrees available.
As clearly seen in the graph, international students focus their attention on degrees assumed to be as a higher class in society, and act as a guarantee for future careers with higher salary, such as nursing, electrical engineering, and information technology. For nursing degrees, both UK and non – UK students have an even percentage of approximately seventy – five percent gaining a second class degree. However, those of the other degrees (Electrical engineering and Information technology) have major differences. For both degrees, international students marked up more the three forth of the total, respectively at 80 and nearly 90 percent.
In contrast, English literature and art history were mostly chosen by home students, at the approximate rate of 60 percent. Surprisingly, both students enjoy Accountancy equally at exactly 60 percent. Also, Sociology is a high – demanding degree for both home students and international students. The percentage of UK students joining a second degree of Sociology is 80 percent, and that of non – UK ones only is just a little short to be exact percentage of home students. Finally, home students and international students showed a difference in choosing International Law as a second degree. It showed that the number of UK students almost tripled the number of the other.
In conclusion, we can say that international students only have confidence with a degree that can provide them a safety kit with a secured future with higher success rate.
