Band 7+: A country should spend money on skills training or vocational training for practical work, rather than on university education. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is an ongoing debate about whether governments should allocate funds to vocational training instead of university education. While vocational training could help people accumulate several essential skills for the workforce, university education still holds an important role in society.

There are several compelling reasons that could explain why investing in vocational training can bring numerous advantages to society. First of all, vocational training could provide many essential skills for students such as healthcare, construction, and technology. These techniques will support people before they engage in the workforce, which could decrease the unemployment rate. Secondly, vocational courses are shorter and lower cost compared to university education, which could help underprivileged students gain knowledge and attend the workforce sooner, contributing to the nation’s economy.

Despite the advantages of vocational training, traditional university education still has its benefits. Higher education provides specialized knowledge, which is crucial for numerous professions such as medicine, law, etc., that are only obtained in university. Furthermore, universities contribute to personal development by enhancing communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, which are essential in students’ careers. Additionally, students who graduated from well-known universities have a high ratio to be received in high-paid salary co-operations.

In conclusion, although vocational training is essential for equipping individuals with practical skills and addressing unemployment, traditional university education remains a crucial part of society. Therefore, rather than prioritizing one over the other, governments should manage to balance the fund investing in both vocational and academic education to meet the needs of society.
