In the technological predominant society, a rise of antisocial behaviors and a lack of common respect among society can be observed. I contend that this phenomenon is caused by two pivotal factors, which includes the ubiquity of social media and the inclination of acquiring mental health complications.
To commence with, it is noteworthy to apprehend that antisocial behaviors and the lack of respect for others is not individually inherent, but it is a combination of multifaceted problems attributing to the aforementioned issue. Nowadays, gaining access to social media and content within the internet is feasible due to technological advancements. As a result, those who are ill-informed about social media etiquettes are often more prone to be affected by malicious and pervasive useless content, causing cognitive distortions; People who engage in harmful behaviors may rationalize their actions, believing they are justified for doing so. In addition, mental health disorders may heavily impact people’s ability to differentiate between good or bad, causing them to act irrational and antisocial. To exemplify, those who are affected by NPD (Narcissistic personality disorder) often don’t have the self awareness that they are being narcissistic and disrespectful of others, causing them to further cause harm to those who come in contact with them.
To address these issues is an intricate matter, as mental health disorders and complications are often time dependent on every individual’s situation. However, these problems can be alleviated with general improvements such as CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy), it is a talking therapy that can help patients manage their problems by changing the way of thinking and behaviors. Moreover, one should be well-informed on the usage of the internet and social media, thereby optimizing the benefits of the internet and mitigating its negative effects.
In conclusion, I elaborated two key factors leading to antisocial and disrespectful behaviors, which is the excessive utilization of social media and mental disorders. To improve the situation, patients can implement therapy and educate themselves on proper use of social media platforms.
