In unban cities, the lack of accommodation has posed a threat to citizens’ sense of well-being seriously, and some people claim that government taction is the only solution to the problem. While I partly agree that governments should make efforts to tackle the issue, there are other approaches to deal with the situation.
To be frank, there is no denying that governments hold the key to the solution of housing shortage. This phenomenon is a consequence of fast pace development of cities. To be more specific, in order to boost economic growth, government has to estabilish massive buildings for business, thereby appealing more corporations from other places and creating more employments. However, this lead to a situation where there are a considerable areas occupied for business use such as shopping malls, factories instead of accommodations. Since only governments have such law-making power to modify the situation by spending more money on accommodation building in suburban areas as well as expanding residential places in cities. In this way, the problem may be mitigated.
Nevertheless, governments help is not likely to tackle the issue by root, and there is another approach can mitigate the problem effectively. To begin with, easing the pressure of housing shortage only by building more accommodations may be money-wasted. Although there will be more houses for citizens to choose by this mean, the long commuting distance to city centre as well as high cost of them will still be a barrier for normal people. As a result, the new buildings may fail to be sold, and the housing place is still intensive in city center. What is worse, this even cause economic loss, becoming a vitual circle. However, at the same time, if we make contribution to slow the population growth, the situation may be reversed. With a rapid development, there are excessive people living in the city, and I believe it is a useful way to cut down on borning rate. We can carry forward such idea by media, which can shape citizens’ ideas. And finally control the pace of population growth.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that governments should make efforts to solve the problems, while it is likely to be combined with other method so that we can make a better consequence.
