The bar chart showcases the amount of Australians (in million) who used certain types of social platforms between 2018 and 2020.
In overall, the chart shows that Twitter and Instagram had relatively stable user usage and had a small amount of users. On the other hand, YouTube, Facebook, and Whatsapp were quite popular and had significant shifts in number of users throughout the years.
Interestingly, Whatsapp started 2018 with only around 3.5 million users; however, the amount of people who utilized Whatsapp increased throughout 2019 and 2020, ending at approximately 8 million users. Similarly, YouTube’s consumer amount increased by around 6 million people between 2018 and 2020. This made YouTube the most popular social platform throughout the three years.
While Facebook was the second most popular social media, the amount who used it significantly declined. The social network started with around 12 million users in 2018, then the number decreased to 11 million in 2019, and ended with approximately 9.8 million users in 2020. Instagram’s user count behaved similarly to that of Facebook, however a notable difference is the subtlety of the number shift. The number of Australians who used Instagram only decreased by approximately a quarter of a million between 2018 and 2020. Although Twitter had a little increase in user usage in 2019 (approximately 4.4 million users), it ended 2020 with a decline in consumers (around 4.2 million users).
