Some people believe that the major environmental concern at present is the extinction of some species of plants and animals, while others have the view that there are even more important environmental issues.
First of all, there is no denying in recognising the importance of all the species of plants and animals. They are the beauty of the environment and the necessity to keep the ecosystem in balance. Dying out of some fauna and flora does affect our environment negatively. As a common example, animals like dogs and wolves eat other dead animals and keep the atmosphere clean. If these animals become extinct, there will be piles of dead and decaying bodies covering huge areas of land leading to a foul smell and nuance. Similarly, some plant species are very friendly and beneficial for our crops as they keep insects and pests away from the cultivation leading to better produce. If such species vanish, then it will lead to poor crop production and food shortage leaving the already food insecurity soaring sky-high.
Despite all these arguments in favour of the above-mentioned view, I do believe that there are more important environmental threats to deal with. In the contemporary era, climate change and plastic overuse are the leading causes of environmental deterioration. Climate change is leading to high rainfall and flooding which the world has never experienced before, leading to a ruinous impact on infrastructure and lives. These two issues are the major environmental threats about which the world should take immediate and pragmatic actions for the sustainability of the environment and the survival of humans and other kinds.
