In the current technologically advanced world, becoming a bilingual person seems to be an essential matter for many young people, particularly those who live in developing countries. There has been ongoing debate regarding whether or not parents should encourage their child to study an extra language besides their mother tongue when they first begin their education journey. By doing so, children can gain more benefits than detrimental outcomes, the reasons for which will be elaborated on in this essay.
Some opponents of this might claim that studying another language while children are still learning their own language is not an effective approach, as this would make them confused regarding vocabulary and gramma norms. This would result in slower improvement and ultimately affect to the ability to communicate both languages. However, I would personally argue that although this action could lead to some difficulties, their positive outcomes are the priority to be emphasized. This is because learning as soon chirldren begin their schooling, they are required to consistently use their brain to learn new vocabulary, understand gramma structure, and get familiar with the language norms. This could lead to enhanced and improved cognitive skills, which are essential for everyday tasks, problems solving as well as social interaction abilities.
Furthermore, by learning a foreign language at an early age, children could obtain advantages in various ways. The most significant benefit is that this could open doors for their personal growth and future opportunities due to the fact that those who start learning an additional language early will be able to communicate in that language ahead of time. This would enable them to access international education and later allow them to participate in the global networking, which could ultimately use as a tool to enhance their future career. For instance, my former colleague from Cambodia started her English learning experience from the primary school, which later allow she to be able to pursue both bachelor and master degree in overseas. As a result, she could work with an international organization where she has performed role as a manager.
In conclusion, despite a few drawbacks of learning a foreign language at soon as children begin their school, its encouraging outcomes such as improved cognitive skills, opened door for personal growth and increased future opportunities are the primary factors that parents should be considered.
