The pie charts illustrate how often men and women in Australia used social media in 2011 and 2014.
Overall, it can be seen that social media usage increased for both genders over the period, especially people who used it every day. Women were generally more active users than men in both years.
In 2011, about 25% of men used social media every day, while the figure for women was slightly higher at around 30%. However, a large proportion of men, nearly 44%, never used social media at all, compared to only 8% of women. Using social media once a week was more common among women (39%) than men (12%). Men were more likely to use it only a few times a week.
By 2014, daily usage rose significantly. Around 45% of men used social media every day, while women reached a very high level of 59%. The percentage of people who never used social media decreased for both genders, although men still had a higher rate at 30% compared to women at 22%. Overall, women became much more frequent users than men.
