Overall, social media use increased for both genders over the period, especially daily usage. Women were more active users than men in both years.
In 2011, around 25% of men used social media every day, while the figure for women was slightly higher at about 30%. A large proportion of men, nearly 44%, did not use social media at all, compared with only 8% of women. Using social media once a week was more common among women, at 39%, whereas only 12% of men used it at this frequency. Men were more likely to use social media a few times a week.
By 2014, daily use increased noticeably. About 45% of men used social media every day, while the figure for women rose sharply to 59%. The percentage of people who never used social media fell for both genders, although it remained higher for men 30% than for women 22%. Overall, women became much more frequent users of social media than men.
