The two charts illustrate the proportion of males and females who had driving license in Great Britain from 1976 to 2006, and the porportion of young men and women drivers who were at the age of 17-20 in 1996 and 2006, respectively.
Overall, the percentage of both women and men with driving license had been increasing throughout the years. However, popularity of driving amongst young people was declined.
According to the data, the interest of having driving license was mostly increased amongst women, rather than men, and the proportion was increasing every year with around 5%. Starting with 30% in 1976, the percentage of women who had driving license reached 60% in 2006. However, the percentage of males was stable from 1976 to 1981, and starting with 72% in 1986, reached the difference of 20% comparing with the percentage of females.
In contrast, despite the fact that percentage of people who had a driving license was steadily increasing, the percentage of young drivers, between 17 to 20 years old, fell in 2006. In 1996, the proportion of men, who were drivers at young age, was 50%, while the percentage of women was above a quarter. Then, in 2006, the percentage decreased. The proportion of men till around 45%, and women till 20%.
