Turning to the rising trends, there was a gradual rise in the percentage of interest in tennis and golf from 25% and 8% to 33% and 17% between 1999 and 2009. Thereafter, the proportion of interest in swimming rose slightly from 32% in 1999 to 34% in 2004, after which the figure remained unchanged over the following years. As for yoga, it remained stable at 10% between 1999 and 2004, and then the data went up markedly to 13% in 2009.
By contrast, the percentage of interest in football and basketball saw a gradual reduction from 57% and 26% in 1999 to 48% and 24% in 2009. As for volleyball, it rose noticeably from 17 % to 20% from 1999 to 2004, before experiencing a drop to 18% in 2009.
