The image above shows three pie charts that investigates the selection of blooks sold by a single bookseller between the 1972 and 2012. The types of books are separated into five categories, which consists of, adult fiction, children’s fiction, biography, travel, and others. The pie chart illustrates the differences in trends and it is documented every 20 years.
During 1972, the pie chart segments seems to be equally distributed with the “other” category having the greatest share, while on the other hand, the “travel” segment holds the least share. The rest of the categories, lies on the 20% line.
As time passes, the “others” category regressed from 25% to 12%, while the “adult fiction” books significantly fluctuates from 20% to 45%. Futhermore, the children’s fiction books are second-in-line next to the adult fiction books. The rise of the fiction books sold implies that the later generation preferred fantasy books rather than the story of a person’s life, it is backed up by the drastic downward trend of biography section.
