The table illustrates the percent attendance of individuals over 15 in selected sports and physical activities by sex in Australia between 2011 and 2012.
Overall, it is obvious in the table that females participated in selected sports and physical activities more than males;however,there is no sharp difference.
Among males, walking for exercise was leading the list with 16.5%. Fitness/Gym followed walking with 15.1%. Also while males played golf, 8.2%; football, 4.1%; and basketball, 2.8%, none of the females participated in these sports and activities. Moreover, men attended cycling, jogging, and tennis more, compared to women.
For females, walking for exercise was on the top of the list with 30.4%- way more than that of males’ attendance percentage.After jogging, fitness came with percent participation of 19.1%. While females showed high participation rates to such sports and activities like walking, fitness ,swimming , they showed little attendance to tennis and yoga with percent of 3.4% and 3.3%, respectively. As females attended netball(4.5%) and yoga(3.3%),men did not attend these sports and activities.
That being said, the most preferred sport/activity was walking among all participants, but females participated walking more than males.
