The line graph provides information concerning the consumption of junk food of Australian youngsters between 1975 and 2000. The data refers to three diverse categories of food- pizza, fish and chips, and hamburgers, and are expressed in the number of times they were consumed per year. Overall, pizza and hamburgers consumption increased, whilst fish and chips became significantly less popular.
In 1975 fish and chips was extremely appreciated by Australian teenagers, who chose to eat it exactly 100 times in a year. Following this peak, the consumption registered a slight falling-off in 1980, and an increment immediately afterwards. Nevertheless, it still accounted for between 80 and 90 times. From 1985 onwards, the consumption of fish and chips started to gradually decline over the 25 year timescale to finish at just under 40.
Conversely, the pattern of hamburgers and pizza are considerably different. Hamburgers consumption shot up over a 10-year timespan , starting from being virtually absent in the teenagers diet in 1975, to being eaten more than 80 times in a year in 1985. In 1985 it surpassed fish and chips consumption. It then reached a plateau (leveled off) from 1995 to 2000.
Also Pizza consumption soared gradually until it overtook the consumption of fish and chips in 1990. In 1995 it reached a plateau at a rate of approximately 80 times in 1-year period.
