The given bar chart illustrates the percentage of both gender’s employment by occupation in the UK in the year 2005.
Overall, it can be seen that there were differences in all figures given. Noticeably, it is striking to note that skilled trades was the most favorable job of men whereas most women had a preference to choose administrative and secretarial over a year.
Looking at the details, skilled trades were more prominent among men than women with 20% in the former and around 2% in the latter. By contrast, the proportion of women selecting administrative and secretarial positions was over four times as high as that of men with around 23% as opposed to 5% in 2005. Subsequently, while the figure for men choosing process, plant and machine operatives was substantially higher than that of women, the opposite pattern was true for personal service, coupled with sales and customer service during this year.
Furthermore, the percentage of male workers selecting managers and senior officials was substantially larger than that of women with approximately 18% and 11% respectively. Meanwhile, there was a similarity in two occupations, namely elementary and professional of both genders, with the figure higher than just about 3%.
