The chart compares the percantage of the participation of boys and girls in different sport activities after school time in Australia in 2010. Overall, boys were more active in football and basketball, while girls were involved more on swimming and netball. Notably, football had the most significant gender gap.
Football was the most popular sport activity among boys with 20% of them participating, which was 5 times more than girls. Basketball saw a slightly higher participation rate among boys, with around 8% compared to 7% of girls.
When it comes to netball and swimming, however, girls outnumbered boys. Netball showed the most significant difference in favour of girls with 17% of them participating, compared to just 3% of boys. 16% of girls took part in swimming with a difference of 3% compared to the opposite gender. In addition, the percentage of girls who were not participating in any of the sports was 5%, one percentage point higher than boys.
