The bar char compares the proportion of women who went into higher education in five different countries in 1980 and 2015.
Overall, it is clear that all nations experienced an increase in their proportion, while Australia remained stable throughout the period. It is also worth mentioning that South Korea stood out among others with its consistently smaller shares.
The figure for UK and the US followed the same trajectory. The former rose from about 35% to 55% in 2015, while the US reached all-time high of 58% in 2015. Moreover, France followed with a rise from 50% to around 54%.
Focusing on the remaining figures, the percentage of female school- leavers in South Korea was not as high as in other countries. In 1980, only 15% of girls pursued their study after school, but their number doubled to 30% in the final year. Lastly, in 1980, the share of girls who went into higher education in Australia was roughly 58% and remained static by the end of the year.
