The bar chart compares the percentage of enterprises in the UK, specifically small, medium and large that maintained social media presence between 2012 and 2016.
Overall, large businesses recorded the highest rates throughout the period, whereas small and medium businesses both followed similar patterns and had lower figures. All three businesses temporarily declined in 2015 and witnessed improvement in 2016.
Small businesses made up about 28% of social media presence in 2012, whilst for medium enterprises this indicator was almost a third of data. In 2013, small enterprises had 2% growth, meanwhile medium businesses had a dramatic jump and accounted for nearly 48%. The indicators increased steadily in the following year, with small and medium enterprises being around 35% and 49% respectively. Both medium and small businesses had a plummet in 2015 which brought their respective figures to the same level. In 2016, small enterprises reached a peak of approximately 48%, meanwhile medium businesses climbed to just above 50%.
The figure for large enterprises stood at approximately 78% in 2012 and remained stable the next year. In 2014, large businesses experienced a slight dip to around 77%, which was followed by rapid decline in 2015, when the figure fell to around 52%. However, large businesses recovered swiftly in 2016 and recording the highest rate of nearly 80% by the end of the period.
