Overall, the most popular music genre over the period gives was “popular” music, whereas “classical” music was the least favorite. It is also clear that younger Autralians preferred popular music than older people.
For popular music, the youngest group (15-24) had the highest attendance at 38%. The number went down to 27% for people aged 25-34, but then it went up to 33% for the 35-44 group. After age 44, the percentage dropped quickly. For the oldest people (55+), only 5% went to popular music events.
Opera and classical music had much lower numbers. Opera was most popular for people aged 35-44 at 25%. For other ages, it was between 13% and 15%. Classical music was the lowest. Its highest point was 11% for the youngest and middle-aged groups. For the oldest group, only 8% attended classical music.
