The chart and the line graph demonstrate how many athletes have participated in the Olympics since 1924, when it was first held.
Let’s first consider the data in the bar chart. It sorts the participants into two categories – male and female. It is noticeable that the men remained more than the women each year, although both’s numbers showed an upward trend. The male category witnessed a marginal increase, its participants ranging from 3,000 in 1924 to just under 6,000 in 2012. However, the female athletes became dramatically more in 2012, reaching almost 5,000.
Next, let’s examine the data in the line graph. Likewise the bar chart, its numbers also saw an upward trend. The most striking feature is that the participants rose suddenly from 1984 to 2012, when their numbers jumped from just over 6,000 to slightly above 10,000.
Overall, both the chart and graph show an improvement in the number of the athletes with more male than female participants.
