The two charts both show information about the Olympics’ participants from the beginning up to the year 2012, with the bars displaying data about the genders of participants.
Overall, the number of athletes increased significantly, with more than 9,000 additional participants over 88 years. While the gap between male and female participants narrowed over time, it remained noticeable.
Specifically, in the bar chart, male participants consistently outnumbered female participants, including in 2012. In the first 28 years, fewer than 1,000 women participated. However, in 1984, female participation increased significantly, and by 2012, the number of female athletes surged above 4,500, marking a major growth in women’s participation. Mean while, male participation followed a steady upward trend from 1924 to 2012, rising by nearly 2,000 participants, from about 3,000 to 5,000.
Additionally, the line charts reveal that the total number of participants gradually increased from over 2,000 in 1924 to more than 6,000 in 1984. In 2012, the numbers rose sharply, surpassing 10,000 participants.
