The bar chart below illustrates the percentage of women giving birth to their first child from 1966 to 2006.
Over the entire period the percentage of women under 19 and early twenties who gave birth to the first child declined sharply, while the percentage for women over 30 years increased considerably. However, there were only 35 percent of women in their mid to late twenties who gave birth .(In contrast, only 35 percent of women in their mid to late twenties gave birth in 1966 and this number increased steadily over the years.)
In the beginning of the period, the percentage of women who had their first child
under early twenties, started at roughly 65% and 35%. However then they decreased sharply to about 15% and 27%.Also groups aged mid to late twenties fluctuated during the period, but in 2006 stayed at the same percentage.
