Overall, there was a decrease in the number of people who owned a house while an increase can be seen in those who rented a house. However, the percentage of homeownershome owners stayed higher than that of renters, except in the last two years.
The proportions of homeowners saw a gradual drop from about 60% in 2004 to roughly 56% in 2007, and kept falling by 10% three years later. Meanwhile, the renters’ figure rose moderately from exactly 20% in 2004 to about 26% in 2007, followed by a rapid increase to 36% in 2010.
In 2011 and 2012, the percentage of homeowners and renters remained steady and approximately equal, at about 43% and 41%. Nevertheless, in 2013, the number of renters exceeded that of homeowners. By the end of the period in 2014, the gap had widened to about 10%.
