The pie charts provide data regarding amount of spending on essential goods by Chinese families in 1995 and in 2011. The charts are divided into four categories of items: ‘Food’, ‘Clothing’, ‘Medicine’, and ‘Household goods’.
The increase in consumption over the given time frame is seen in medicine and household goods. In medicine, spending grew almost threefold, from 4% reaching 11%. Demand for household goods shifted up by a third, from 9% to 12%.
Percentage of household budget spent on food which is the biggest part in both graphs plummeted by 9%, from 68% to 59%. Chinese started to buy slightly less clothes , from 19 to 18%.
Overall, the plots demonstrated that all categories have stayed in the same order in terms amount of budget spent. People started to have extra money to spend on their health.
