The chart compares four types of transport which are used for going to school among the students aged between 11 and 16 in the UK through the different distances.
Overall, walk and bicycle are most preferred for a short distances, as opposed to car and bus, which are widely used for a long distances. Furthermore, cycling is the least popular mode in the all categories.
Turning to the details, what stands out from the graph is that cycling is almost as the lowest popular as walking over 5 miles. Conversely, when it comes to 0-1 mile distance the proportions are dramatically various, sitting at approximately 85% and 8% respectively. At this point, 60% of the British children go on foot whereas just under 10% of them ciclycling, which meant that the usage of bicycles is not nearly as preferable as walking for 1-2 miles.
By contrast, the most large used transport with more than 64% is bus for over 5 miles distance. Following this, the second popular way is driving with 30%. The percentages for bus and car tend to be nearly similar in terms of traveling to school in distance 2-5 miles, sitting at just over 30%. Next, as regards 1-2 miles, one fifth percentage of students use car, making it twice preferable than bus. In addition, with respect to 0-1 mile, around 6% of students drive for school; however, that for bus is the worst over the all categories with approximately 1%.
