The bar chart illustrates the proportion of males and females engaging in the most popular sports in Britain in 2008.
The most evident feature is that soccer was recorded as the most favored by males, whereas netball attracted a majority of their counterparts. Noticeably, netball saw a biggest disparity between both genders, as opposed to tennis, which experienced a close similarity.
Regarding the sports which attracted more females outweigh males, namely swimming, netball and jogging. 25% of women participated in netball, compared to just only approximately 2% of men. Observing a smaller difference, the proportion of females joining swimming was roughly 23%, whereas the figure for males was significantly lower, at merely 13%. Furthermore, with regard to tennis and basketball, the percentage of males exceeded females, with its figure ranging from 7% to 8%. Jogging, however, was the least preferred sport among both genders, at roughly 3%
Turning to the remaining activities, approximately 25% of males played football, nearly 20% higher than the proportion of females, at only 5%. There was a stark difference in gender distribution in cricket, with 10% of males versus only 2% of females. This disparity was less noticeable in table tennis, the statistics for males constituted roughly 10%, nearly triple that for women, at nearly 3%. Other sports were the second most popular choice among men with 20%, doubling the figure for its counterpart, at 10%.
