The bar chart illustrates the percentage of Canadians donating to charitable organizations in 2000 and 2015, categorized by age group.
Overall, while donation rates among younger age groups (18 to 49) declined over the 15-year period, those in older age brackets (50 and above) saw an increase in contributions. The most significant decrease was observed in the 18 to 24 age group, while the largest increase was among donors aged 50 to 64.
In 2000, donation rates were highest in the 35 to 49 age group, reaching nearly 35%, followed closely by the 50 to 64 group at around 34%. The 25 to 34 and 65+ groups contributed at slightly lower rates, approximately 29% and 30% respectively. The youngest age group (18 to 24) had the lowest proportion of donors, at just under 20%.
By 2015, a notable decline was observed among younger donors. The proportion of donors aged 18 to 24 dropped significantly to around 11%, while the 25 to 34 group also saw a decline to about 25%. The 35 to 49 age group, previously the most generous, experienced a reduction to just over 30%.
