The pie chart illustrates the number of books sold by a bookseller in the 20 year period.
Overall, it is clear that there was an obvious change in each figure. The adult fiction and children’s fiction have the most noticeable growth, while travel, biography and others undergo a downward trend
In 1972, adult fiction just occupied ⅕ total of proportion of retailed books with 20%, but it climbed remarkably to 25% in 1992. After 20 years, this figure increased dramatically to 45%. Meanwhile, children’s fiction fluctuated slightly around 20% to 25% in 1972 and 2012 respectively.
In contrast, the two types of books experienced a decline of the data of sales in each year. Biography considerably decreased to 8% in 2012 though this number was 20% in 1972. Similarly, the ratio of others, which were 25% in 1972, also went down to 12% in 2012. In additions, the data of travel books had a moderate fluctuation in 1992, which rose 3% compared with 1972 but dropped to 10% in 2012
