The pie charts compare the factors why students went to a British university in 1987 and those in 2007.
Overall, students mainly chose their university or college based on the courses it offered in 1987 and 2007, with the latter having slightly more percentage points. It is also clear that, people’s concern about the location of their study place had increased over the period while the opposite was true for sport and social activities. The other reasons showed a little disparity over the period.
Looking at first educational reasons, most of the students opted for a university or a collage if only they found their desirable degree and then they took other reasons into consideration. With that being said, 35% of students were in favor of suitable degree courses in 1987 while this number slightly increased by 2007. Next two reasons – quality of resources and teaching – have almost similar discrepancy in their figures, with the former dropping from 21% to 16% and the latter increasing from 15% to 18%.
Moving to other factors, 19% of students chose their study destinations by looking at the entertainment facilities they offer in 1987 and by 2007 it dramatically dropped to 6%. Concern about the distance of the university and college had risen from 10% in the first year to 22% in 2007, making it the second main reason why students chose their study places.
