The charts illustrate why students choose a particular college and university in a UK in 1987 and 2007. Overall, students chose a certain university because of five main reasons such as quality of resources, suitable degree courses, close to paternal home, quality teaching and good sports and social activities. In 1987, a suitable degree courses had the highest percentage of choosing among other reasons. While, close to paternal home showed the lowest figure by 1987.
In 1987, the most popular reason of choosing a particular reason was the suitable degree courses with the rate of 35% and till 2007, the figure increased negligible to 37%. In the same year, the quality of resources was 21%, then the rate is slightly decreased to 17% by 2007.
Another reason like close to paternal home was 10%, then this percentage is almost doubled to 22% by 2007. In 1987, the proportion of quality teaching was 15%, while it is minimally rose to 18%. The percentage of choosing university for the reason of good sports and social activities was 19% by 1987. However, this figure is dramatically fell to 6% by 2007.
