Overall, there was an increase in number of households with one and two cars, while the percentage of households with no car witnessed considerable fall.
In 1961, the number of people without personal transport was the highest (65%) and owners of one car accounted for 35%, while there was no owners of two cars. Throughout the period between 1961 and 1981, the amount of people without cars started to fall significantly to 35%, after which continued to decrease moderately to under 30% for the following 20 years, ending in its lowest point at 28%.
Conversely, the figures for people who owned one and two cars rise constantly until 1981 to exactly 50% and approximately 25%, respectively. After 1981, the number of households purchased one car experienced slight fall for the following two decades, while figure for the owners of two cars witnessed continuous growth to just under 30% until 2001.
