The line graph above displays between 1990 and 2010, the variations in the proportions of European people who went to gyms once a month or more.
According to the line graph, the percentage of all age groups continually increased over the twenty years, though with different rates. The only exception was the adolescent group (18-24), with a noticeable decrease in 2006.
Before the downward point, the adolescent group showed a strong growth trend, increasing from just under 5% in 1990 to 30% in 1998, when it surpassed the group of 25 to 34 and continued to grow to the culmination of about 50% in 2006. However, in the following two years, as mentioned above, the percentage rapidly dropped to 40%, slightly higher than 36% of the group of 25 to 34 .
The statistics for the other groups, the middle-aged group (35-44) and the group over 45 were steadier. They constantly increased throughout the surveyed period, the middle-aged group increasing from 6% in 1990 to 40% in 2010, the group of over 45 from 4% to over 20%. The former group evidently had a higher growth rate, allowing it to constantly widen its lead
