The chart illustrates the age at which hearing loss starts in men and women in the USA.
Overall, hearing loss tends to begin earlier in males than in females, with the highest proportion of males experiencing it between the ages of 20 and 59, while females are more likely to develop hearing loss later in life.
To begin with males, loss of hearing is most least at the age of 5 and under with about 2 percent. This number starts to increase when males between 6 and 19 with the percentage of just above 10. 20-39 and 40-59 male age groups hearing ability loss is at the peak with approximately 32 and 33 percent. This number starts to decrease when men turn 60-69 and, 70 and over with above 11 and 6 percent, in that order.
Moving to the females, auditory loss starts for approximately 32% of people aged 40 to 59. The figures for the 20 to 39, 60 to 69 and 70 and over age cohorts range from roughly 16% to 20%. Around 12% of the young from 6 to 19 years old begin developing deafness, which is about four times higher than children in the 5 and under bracket.
