The bar chart compares time consumption by Britan pupils ranging from 10 to 15 years old on two typical types of internet activities: chatting on the internet and playing on games console on school day basis.
It can clearly be seen that girls spend more time on chatting online, whilst boys prefer playing computer games in the UK. In terms of the overall amount of time consuming on the internet, playing computer games is slightly higher than chatting by Britian pupils.
Looking at chatting online, the numbers of boys and girls who spend less than 1 hour are quite close at around 25%. However, girls spend more than one hour chat accounts higher percentage at 35%. Especially for those of 4 more hours’ chat, the number of girls doubled than that of boys.
On the contrast, boys show higher interest in playing computer games. 45% of boys dive 1 to 3 hours in online games and that is 3 times of girls. Only 1 % of girls spend more than 4 hours playing on game consoles, while around 11% of boys do that.
