The following bat chart illustrates the number of Australian males and females who obtained a post-school degree (skilled vocational diploma, undergraduate diploma, bachelor’s degree, postgraduate diploma, and master’s degree) in percentage in 1999.
Overall, while the graduation rate was the highest in undergraduate diplomas for women, most male graduates held a skilled vocational diploma in that year. Regarding the least gained degree, skilled vocational and undergraduate diplomas can be considered for women and men, respectively.
Among women, the second most obtained post-school qualification was the bachelor’s degree (about 55%) right after the undergraduate diploma, which just about 70% of women managed to achieve. It is also evident that only 10% of skilled vocational diplomas were given to female students. Furthermore, the proportion of females who received a postgraduate diploma was almost three-quarters of the ones who held a master’s degree, 30% and 40%, respectively.
Meanwhile, 90% of skilled vocational diplomas and 70% of postgraduate diplomas were gained by men, and approximately 35%, 45%, and 60% of namely bachelor’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas, and master’s degrees were received by male students.
