Overall, private cars were the most popular among the five categories. In contrast to the upward trenal of private cars and other type of vehicles, motorcycles and lorries experienced a downward trend, while the figure for bus, coach and taxi remained the same throughout the period.
In 1996, the number of private cars registered accounted for 19 millions, which was almost twenty times higher than the other categories. Following private cars, the figures for motorcycle and other vehicles were 1 millions and about 1,5 million, respectively. The number of registered lorries was just only a half of motorcycles figure and the lowest figure was bus, coach, and Taxi with only 0,1 million vehicles registered.
By 2006, the number of registered private cars was accounted for the change of 26,32%, from 19 to 24 millions and remained as the predominant registered vehicles. The category which experienced the same trend as private cars was other vehicles with a slight increase to about 2 millions. A modest decrease was seen in the figure of motorcycles and lorries. Registered bus, coach, and taxi remained constant in 2006 with 0,1 million and continuing to be the least figure of both years.
