If we look at both years, the proportion of girls per boys was higher in every section.
Considering primary education in developing countries, there were 83 girls per 100 boys in 1990, compared to 87 girls per 100 boys in 1998. Looking at the same level of education, in developed countries, the number of girls accounted for 95 per 100 boys in 1990. In 1998, the figure was only 1 point higher (96). Regarding secondary education in developing countries, the number of girls made up 72 per 100 boys in 1990, while in 1998 it was higher than that, at 82. When it comes to developed countries, the number of girls per 100 boys was almost the same, at 98 and 99. Concerning tertiary education in developing countries, the proportion of girls per 100 boys (66) was lower than in 1998 (75). With regard to developed countries, the figure for 1990 comprised 105, compared to 112 in 1998, which was slightly higher than the target (100).
