The given chart illustrates six science-linked areas studied by an amount of research students (both women and men) at the UK universities in the year of 2009.
Overall, most of the areas had more men than women, except veterinary medicine. In addition, we clearly saw that some research areas had male dominance in this case. Although biology and medicine had slight differences between both genders.
Physics had over 200 male researchers, in contrast it had just under 50 female researchers in 2009. Also, astronomy and geology students’ numbers were similar to this result. In 2009, 150 male researchers found that in both astronomy and geology areas, while the number of female researchers was only above 50.
While men still had some overpopulation in biology, women scientists were in more in the biology area than other scientific areas, which is 200 students. Like biology, medicine had fewer women than men which was approximately 175 students. However, only veterinarian researchers found the opposite result: women found more placement than men.
