The chart illustrates how the proportion in market share of mobile applications globally changed over a five-year period starting in 2010.
Overall, while the percentage in market share of mobile applications for news and education followed similar upward patterns, the reverse was true for games and other. Additionally, sharing games was the highest proportion of mobile applications for all over the period.
Focusing on the increases first, the percentage in market share of education rose significantly over the period. Starting at just 5% in 2010, the proportion in market share of education grew gradually to almost 10% in 2012, before experiencing a noticeable increase to 25% in 2014. The figure for news also saw an ouward trend, which rose consistently from 15% in 2010 to about 25% in 2014.
In contrast, the figures for games and other bucked the trend. As for the figure for games, despite a marginal decline from 45% in 2010 to 40% in 2012, the proportion for this remained the highest for all the year. And for the last figure for other, it underwent a dramatical change. The percentage in marker share of other dropped from 35% in 2010 to 10% in 2014.
