Overall, the number of international migrants increased for Germany, the UK, and the USA over a 20-year period, with the USA having the highest number of migrants. Germany had the highest percentage of migrants in the country’s population among the other observed countries.
From 2000 to 2020, the total number of migrants in Germany and the UK increased slightly to around 10 million people. Meanwhile, the number in the USA had risen significantly by about 15 million individuals, reaching 50 million migrants in 2020. In contrast, the migrant count in India dropped negligibly to around 5 million, while Russia’s number remained the same at approximately 11 million.
Although Germany and the UK had nowhere near as many migrants as the USA, migrants in Germany constituted 14.7% of the country’s total population in 2020, while those in the UK accounted for 14%. The USA followed closely, with migrants making up 13.5% of its population. India emerged as the country with the smallest proportion of migrants, at just 0.4% of the country’s population.
