In general, local calls remained the most popular category throughout the period, followed by national and international calls, and mobile calls in third place. Although the duration of national and international calls increased over time, the number of minutes spent on mobile calls increased markedly.
Specifically, there was a steady increase in the number of minutes for local calls between 1995 and 1999. In addition there was a dramatic rise in the quantity of minutes for mobile calls from 12 billion minutes to 40 billion from 1999 to 2001.
National and international calls increased steadily throughout the 8 year period from approximately 40 billion minutes to 60 billion minutes. In contrast, the number of minutes of mobile calls grew much more rapidly, increasing from around 3 billion minutes in 1995 to nearly 45 billion by 2002.
